{GIVEAWAY} Flour and Stone: oh you're a stunner


This was my last meal in Sydney. and boy was I glad.

Despite of its name, flour and stone doesn't serve doughy pastries nor will you want to stone the chefs to death for their food. It's more the case that you would wind up walloping these pastries to the bare board when you're out of it. Basically stoner's food... and so much more.

Just like the stuff you read out of Enid Blyton storybooks when you were younger, Flour and Stone is the epitome of that whimsical sweet madness. Gingerbread pencils, lemon drizzle cakes and that good old fashioned Victorian sponge you just want to cuddle up next to with a hot cup of tea. Just taking in the sights and smells of flour and stone alone is a trip.




The Old Fashioned Vanilla Cake ($5.50) is a teetering stack of melt-in-your-mouth vanilla bean studded victorian sponge with a luscious spread of mildly sweetened cream teased by a rustic dabble of muddled berries. Despite the architectural challenge of eating it, it all disappears, a little more quickly than I would have liked. To date, the best cake I've ever had in Sydney. Dead serious.


The coffee was a lukewarm affair. But who cares anyway...

The Canele ($4.00) stole my breath away. Perfectly toffee brown crisp on the outside (no need for knives here please...) and delightfully chewy on the inside, theses beauties perfumed with orange rind thrived on their trademark secret of generous lining of bee wax to the canele tin before a trip to the oven. Brilliant.



Shame it took me so long to discover this hidden gem but my gratitude from having to try this before my departure far outweights the regrets. Furthermore, embarking on my virgin trip with fellow blogger Irene of Irene's Getting Fat ,whom I got to know and love!  Homely and rustic in style, Owner and Chef Ingram keeps it simple and tight, comforting the stomachs of those who wander in.
